TOS/CDC Joint Symposium: Connecting the CORD - Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (CORD) 3.0 - Part 2
When: Thursday, 11/3/2022, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Where: San Diego Convention Center-30ABCDE
Handouts:
Description: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (CORD) 3.0 funding is designed to enhance access to evidence-based pediatric weight management interventions (PWMIs) for children and families from low-income communities. Each of the funded sites is developing interactive, web-based packages of evidence-based PWMIs to promote high fidelity program implementation across rural and urban, community and clinical settings. Specifically, this symposium will highlight the way in which frameworks from implementation science are informing adaptation and dissemination of evidence-based pediatric weight management interventions in the CORD 3.0 projects, with a sneak peak of how these resources will be available and useful for clinics most needing effective treatments for their pediatric patients. Three of five funded projects are highlighted in this session.

This session was jointly produced by The Obesity Society (TOS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Learning Objectives:
1. Apply the latest recommendations for evaluation and treatment; tailor intervention strategies based on patient characteristics such as age or metabolic or behavioral phenotype; understand the differences between weight loss and weight loss maintenance.
3. Implement appropriate strategies for diagnosing adolescent and pediatric obesity, evaluate current treatment options and emerging therapeutics and provide care and treatment to adolescent and pediatric patients accordingly. Teach evidence-based strategies for obesity prevention in the pediatric and adolescent population.
4. Apply lessons learned about the impact of: nutrition and obesity initiatives to reduce health disparities, and federal nutrition and obesity policies on health disparities.
