Description: Despite increased attention to the harms of weight bias, stigma, and discrimination, there remains a pressing need for real-world interventions to address these societal problems. This key lecture will explain the rationale for using policy to prevent and reduce stigma from the top-down and will describe the latest initiatives to address weight stigma in employment, education, and health care. The lecture will discuss next steps needed to promote institutional change, including how each individual can do their part to combat this form of injustice.
This session was jointly produced by The Obesity Society (TOS) and Obesity Action Coalition (OAC).
