Description: Since the death of George Flloyd, we as a society are reckoning with the role of systemic racism as a public health crisis. In this symposium, we explore the role of racism and underrepresentation in the fields of nutrition and obesity, and the effects it has on our patients. Specifically, we will present how racism and stress affect allostatic load and chronic disease risk, and maternal and child health-based outcomes. Join us for this important and timely conversation in how we can improve diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in both The Obesity Society and for our patients and community at large.

This session was jointly produced by The Obesity Society (TOS) and Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (WMDPG).
